Trial set for man accused of thefts from home
ESCANABA — A local handyman who is accused of stealing from a home he was working on in Escanaba last year, has opted to be tried by a jury, according to Delta County Circuit Court.
John Paul Larson, 35, allegedly stole an estimated $2,500 in change and a $350 television sometime between Dec. 5-20 while hired to install flooring in a home on 4th Avenue South, according to Escanaba Public Safety.
Following investigation, Larson was charged with one count of second-degree home invasion, a 15-year felony, in connection with the stolen television, and charged with one count of larceny in a building, a four-year felony, in connection with the stolen money.
During a recent hearing in circuit court, Larson opted to be tried on the two felonies during a jury trial scheduled for May 9-10.
Larson remains lodged in jail in lieu of a $75,000 cash or surety bond. He was ordered by the court to have no contact with the homeowners.
