Gunfire leads to arrest

ESCANABA — A 19-year-old male in possession of a stolen pistol was apprehended by a sheriff’s deputy responding to gun shots in an alley in Gladstone earlier this week, according to the Delta County Sheriff’s Department.

While walking in Gladstone at around 10:30 Monday night, the sheriff’s deputy responded to the sound of possible gun shots in an alley near the 1200 block of Montana Avenue.

After making contact with a male at the scene and following a brief struggle, the individual was found to be in possession of a .22 pistol that was reported stolen out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., according to the sheriff’s department.

The subject was arrested on the following four counts: receiving and concealing stolen property, a 10-year felony; possession of a concealed weapon, a five-year felony; resisting/assaulting/obstructing a police officer, a two-year felony; and reckless discharge of a firearm, a two-year high-court misdemeanor.

The subject remains lodged in the county jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond. His name is being withheld pending authorization of charges at an arraignment in Delta County District Court.

Assisting at the scene in Gladstone were personnel from Gladstone Public Safety and the Michigan State Police Post.
