Cocaine case bound over to circuit court

ESCANABA — A Marquette man, arrested in Escanaba after being found in possession of a large amount of cocaine, was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court.

Anthony Jordan Peano, 22, was arrested on Dec. 23, 2016, after police received a tip about a suspicious subject traveling through ­Escanaba.

Peano was believed to have been traveling from Milwaukee to Marquette when he was stopped by Delta County Sheriff’s Department deputies. They found him in possession of a large amount of cocaine, marijuana, and U.S. currency.

Peano was charged with the following three controlled substance counts: delivery/manufacture of 50-449 grams of cocaine, a 20-year felony with a maximum fine of $250,000; possession of the analogue Alprazolam, a two-year felony with a maximum fine of $2,000; and possession of marijuana, a one-year misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $2,000.

Following his arrest, he was lodged in the county jail. He later posted a surety bond of 10 percent of $100,000 and was released from police custody.

Peano was court-ordered to submit to random drug testing. He must not use or possess controlled substances or be in the company of anyone using or possessing controlled substances.

A date will be set in circuit court for Peano to make a plea or schedule a trial.
