Cocaine case bound over to circuit court
ESCANABA — A Marquette man, arrested in Escanaba after being found in possession of a large amount of cocaine, was recently bound over from Delta County District Court to circuit court.
Anthony Jordan Peano, 22, was arrested on Dec. 23, 2016, after police received a tip about a suspicious subject traveling through Escanaba.
Peano was believed to have been traveling from Milwaukee to Marquette when he was stopped by Delta County Sheriff’s Department deputies. They found him in possession of a large amount of cocaine, marijuana, and U.S. currency.
Peano was charged with the following three controlled substance counts: delivery/manufacture of 50-449 grams of cocaine, a 20-year felony with a maximum fine of $250,000; possession of the analogue Alprazolam, a two-year felony with a maximum fine of $2,000; and possession of marijuana, a one-year misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $2,000.
Following his arrest, he was lodged in the county jail. He later posted a surety bond of 10 percent of $100,000 and was released from police custody.
Peano was court-ordered to submit to random drug testing. He must not use or possess controlled substances or be in the company of anyone using or possessing controlled substances.
A date will be set in circuit court for Peano to make a plea or schedule a trial.
