Escanaba man pleads in methamphetamine case
ESCANABA — An 18-year-old Escanaba man — initially charged with two 20-year felonies in connection with a meth lab — recently entered pleas in Delta County Circuit Court where he will be sentenced next month.
Gavin Wade Warner pleaded guilty to possession of meth, a 10-year felony, and pleaded guilty to maintaining a drug house, a two-year high court misdemeanor.
In exchange for the two guilty pleas, the prosecution agreed last week to dismiss one count of operating/maintaining a meth lab and one count of conspiracy to deliver/manufacture meth, each a 20-year felony.
Warner was arrested in August following investigation into a meth lab in Escanaba by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team and Escanaba Public Safety.
He remains lodged in the county jail in lieu of 10 percent of a $150,000 bond. His sentencing date is set for Jan. 30.
The charges against Warner stem from an Aug. 8, 2016 incident in Escanaba involving a co-defendant who was also arrested in conjunction with the meth bust.
Thaddeus James Dewyse, 28, of Bark River, admitted to purchasing pseudoephedrine for Warner to make meth and pleaded guilty to one count of possession of meth, a 10-year felony. He was later sentenced under the Holmes Youthful Training Act, which allows the conviction to be removed from his record if he follows all sentencing terms.
