Dr. Dosh to retire after 39 years in medicine

ESCANABA — OSF HealthCare announces Steven Dosh, MD will retire from OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group – Family and Internal Medicine. Dr. Dosh’s last day serving patients in the Family and Internal Medicine clinic will be Friday, Feb. 22.

In April 1980, Drs. Dosh and Guy Earle broke ground on a private practice in Gladstone and saw their first patients in July. During this time, Dr. Dosh joined the OSF St. Francis Medical Staff. Just one year later, he assumed the role of Hospice Director for the newly formed Bay de Noc Hospice, while continuing to serve the community through his private practice. By 1995, both Bay De Noc Hospice and Dr. Dosh’s Gladstone practice merged with OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group. He continued to provide exceptional primary care to his patients and took on many different roles over the next couple decades, including medical examiner, hospice director, jail physician, cardiac rehab director, and more.

“Dr. Dosh has truly been a health care leader in our community. Having started a practice in Gladstone and playing a vital role in the beginnings of this community’s hospice program, he has brought knowledge, expertise and great value to OSF HealthCare and to our patients. He has served our community with the utmost dedication and compassion for nearly 40 years and we are so grateful for his contributions,” said Dave Lord, President of OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Dr. Dosh will remain a member of the OSF St. Francis Hospital Medical Staff and continue to serve the community through his roles as director of OSF St. Francis cardiac rehab, chief Delta County medical examiner, OSF Hospice medical director, Delta County Jail physician and faculty member for Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. In addition, Dr. Dosh will continue to provide flight physicals as an aviation medical examiner until OSF HealthCare physician, Dr. Erik Rubright, becomes certified.

Patients of Dr. Dosh will not need to do anything, as they will automatically be enrolled with Dr. Stephen Smith. Dr. Smith joined the OSF St. Francis Family and Internal Medicine practice on Monday, January 7 and is working alongside Dr. Dosh until his departure.
