Conservation district sets scholarship

MANISTIQUE — Two $500 college scholarships are being offered by the Schoolcraft Conservation District (SCD). The scholarships are for students who will pursue a certificate, associates, or bachelors degree in a natural resources field in the fall of 2019.

Applications will be accepted from seniors attending Manistique High School, Jack Reque Alternative School, and Big Bay de Noc School. Students who reside in Schoolcraft County, but attend a different school, are also eligible to apply.

Applications must be postmarked by April 3 or turned into school offices by that date. Winners will be announced in mid-May.

Applications are available through the above school offices, online at www.schoolcraftcd.org or on Facebook @schoolcraftconservationdistrict or by contacting the SCD office at 341-8215.

One of the goals of the SCD is to encourage local students to consider careers in natural resources. In addition to these college scholarships, the SCD is offering scholarship help for students to attend one of two career exploration camps held this June in Roscommon, Mich. (correct application deadline is March 15) and Eagle River, Wis. (application deadline April 12.) Links to the camp websites are available on the SCD website and Facebook page listed above.
