Bay announces service dog conference

ESCANABA — The Bay College Diversity Committee and Yooper Service Dogs present the U.P. Service Dog Conference featuring speakers from Leader Dogs for the Blind, Paws with A Cause, SuperiorLand Pet Partners, The Superior Alliance for Independent Living (SAIL), and Yooper Service Dogs.

This day-long event will cover the options available to those in the U.P. seeking to get disability-assistance through the help of a four-legged friend. The day will begin with a class explaining the difference between commonly confused terms and how to navigate service animal law.

The speakers will be available at the end for a panel discussion featuring questions from the audience. A Yooper Service Dogs’ trainer will also be on hand to answer training-related questions for those training their own service dogs. The event is open and free to the public, however, a donation at the door helps ensure that Yooper Service Dogs can continue providing outreach and educational services such as these. The U.P. Service Dog Conference will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Joseph Heirman University Center (JHUC), Room 952.
