Youth in Art exhibit on display
ESCANABA — The Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba joins the nation in an annual celebration, Youth in Art, and features artwork from Delta County students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Each year, approximately 1,000 pieces are submitted and on display in the galleries and the studio. Verso’s Escanaba mill is the main gallery sponsor for the event.
The 2018 exhibit will be on display now through March 29 in the Bonifas gallery. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday (closed on Sunday and Monday).
“The public is welcome and encouraged to visit the Bonifas anytime during open hours, free of charge,” said Regional Projects and Gallery Director Pasqua Warstler. “This is such a great event for both the Art Center and the schools. Verso’s participation and support of the exhibit helps keep it strong.”
The reception with awards presentation for the exhibit will be March 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. for pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Sixth through 12th grade students will receive awards on March 22 at a reception from 6 to 7 p.m. Awards will be presented from a variety of businesses and organizations such as Verso, GFWC Escanaba Women’s Club, Escanaba Noon Kiwanis, Delta-Schoolcraft Intermediate School District, Michigan Education Association-Coordinating Council 17B and EMP Inc. Warstler reminisced, “The building is always filled with excited young artists. This exhibit means a lot to the children; just to see their piece on display is important.”
