Community Foundation gives Cretens funds

ESCANABA — Community Foundation for Delta County Board Chair David Williams and Foundation Grants Chair Will Carne, Sr. jointly announced the distribution of funds the foundation holds from the trust of Dr. Mary L. Cretens.

Dr. Cretens died on May 5, 2007, and chose the Community Foundation for Delta County to undertake her philanthropy after her passing.

Local entities receiving Dr. Cretens funds from the foundation are: city of Gladstone, Bay de Noc Community College, William Bonifas Fine Arts Center, Gladstone Senior Center, Gladstone School and Public Library, Delta County Animal Shelter and Delta Menominee Health Department.

“The foundation will send out and deliver checks totaling over $360,000 of Dr. Cretens funds alone in 2018,” Williams said. “Dr. Mary Cretens was a member of our foundation board and executive committee and was very supportive of the foundations efforts to improve the lives of Delta County residents. She wanted to have her gifts to the community continue well into the future and she was well aware that our foundation is For Good For Ever.”

“Dr. Cretens generosity and love of the community is very evident in the number of local charities she wanted to support. Over the course of many years, her gifts to our citizens will amount to many millions of dollars. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know and work with Dr. Cretens on our board know what a truly wonderful and caring person she was,” said Carne.
