Volunteer training set for Hope at the Inn
GLADSTONE — The next training dates for homeless shelter volunteers are scheduled for noon on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Memorial United Methodist Church at 1920 Lakeshore Dr. in Gladstone, and another for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Christ the King Church at 1230 N. 18th St. in Escanaba.
The trainings are geared for new volunteers, but those wanting a refresher or to learn more about the shelter are welcome. The trainings last about 75 minutes — no pre-registration needed. Attendees will learn about the shelter concept and specific duties for each shift.
Shelter volunteers are needed to provide an evening meal, and staff three shelter shifts each day from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., 10:30 p.m. to 3 a.m., and 3 to 8 a.m. each day. The location rotates weekly among 13 churches each year from November to April.
Check the website www.HopeAtTheInn.org for the current shelter and training schedule. Trained volunteers may sign up online, at the host churches, or email HopeAtTheInnDelta@gmail.com.
