Rong Sui solo piano recital planned

ESCANABA — Bay College and the Marquette Symphony Orchestra welcome Rong Sui to the Besse Theater for a solo piano recital on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 12 p.m. Rong Sui is currently a junior at the University of Michigan.

She began her piano studies at the age of four and attended the Middle School affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China. As the most advanced student, she won top prizes in several piano competitions and has been invited to perform at several concerts and festivals including the Masterworks festival 2014 in Winona Lake, Ind., the 31st Shanghai Spring International Music Festival, the “Rhythm of the Strings from China” Concert at Texas Christian University, and the Rachmaninoff/Liszt Piano Marathon Concert Series in Beijing. In 2013, Rong participated in the Holmes Hall Concert Series “Music from China” at Harvard University and was recognized as guest artist by Harvard University Pforzheimer Hall. Rong Sui has been cited as “a promising, rising star’ in China and performs Saint-Saens Piano Concerto #2 in February as the winner of the Marquette Symphony’s Youth Concerto Competition.

Repertoire for the Besse recital includes: Brahms, Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, Op. 24; Mozart, Sonata in A major, K. 331; Ravel, Gaspard de la Nuit: III. Scarbo; and William Bolcom, “Hi-jinks”
