Monument policy on Esky council agenda

ESCANABA — Escanaba City Council meets for a regular meeting at city hall at 7 p.m. Thursday when members will consider approving a new policy for memorials, monuments, and public art projects being placed within the city.

The proposed policy states all memorials, monuments, and public art projects must be in accordance with the city’s plans and require the city’s approval before being placed within the city’s parks or public space.

All memorials, monuments and artworks placed in parks or public space which are managed by the city will be under the unconditional control of the city, according to the draft policy.

Among other agenda items, council will also consider a request from someone interested in purchasing a city-owned 1,308-square-foot residential lot at 404 S. 32nd St.
