Bay announces Beautiful Turns exhibit

ESCANABA — Bay College announces the reception for the exhibition Beautiful Turns, artwork by Joseph Pacheco. A reception and Artist Talk will be held in the Hartwig Gallery, on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m.

From his studio in the Upper Peninsula, Joseph Pacheco creates many beautiful turns, as functional and decorative art. An artist uses figured hardwoods for his creations. He reveals the natural beauty hidden within re-purposed and rescued woods.

I think that the “artistry” in what I do is “I have an ability to see beauty in things and expose that beauty for others to enjoy,” Pacheco said. I enjoy exploring ways to reveal that beauty. Over the years, I have found that what pleases the eye of a person can change. I would like to think that people look at that stack of firewood or that knotty old tree differently, after they experience some of my work. Some pieces take up to a year to cure and finish. Some like to wrestle with me and show me what they are going to be. Others, tend to let my hands shape and mold them to my interpretation of beauty. I have a relationship with every piece, some more passionate than others,”

The exhibition can be viewed from Nov. 1 to Jan. 9. There will be an Artist Talk and reception, on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m.
