Dress It Up Manistique returns for third year
MANISTIQUE — The third annual Dress It Up Manistique Contest is in full swing. Do you know of a residence or business that should be recognized for its curb appeal? Maybe your property should receive some accolades. You’re encouraged to nominate your choice.
Mayor Jan Jeffcott began the Dress It Up Manistique competition three years ago and it has been so successful that it’s coming back.
Separate competitions will be held for residential and business categories. Awards include a first prize, $250; second prize, $150; third prize for $100 in each division. Funding for the prizes is from donations by Mayor Jeffcott and Mayor Pro Tem Liz Hill.
All city residents and businesses are invited to nominate a home or a business that they find especially attractive including their own residences or businesses. The contest will run through September. Not all the work has to be done this summer.
“We all know what a terrible impact a blighted property can have on the properties surrounding it,” Jeffcott said. “But we also know that when one neighbor demonstrates pride of ownership and fixes up his place, that moves his neighbors to also make the effort.”
Here are the rules for the Mayors’ Campaign to Dress It Up Manistique. Nominate yourself, a neighbor or any residence or business that impresses you. Complete the entry form available at City Hall or in the media and submit it along with a picture of your nominee property no later than Thursday, Sept 29.
Awards will be presented at a Manistique City Council meeting.
