Strings on the Bay concludes season Tuesday

ESCANABA — Strings on the Bay, the summer chamber music series sponsored by Bay de Noc Community College, concludes its 2017 season with a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Besse Center Theater. This final program of the summer features the “True North Quartet,” a string quartet group from the Ann Arbor area, performing a program entitled “A Night at the Movies.” Violinists Paul Lundin, Karen Donato, and violist Joseph Deller return for their eighth year playing together for Strings on the Bay. Katri Ervamaa will be the guest cellist this summer.

Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” has been heard in many movies over the years. True North will perform the entire Quartet, opus 11, from which this excerpt comes.

Current movie composers owe much to the pioneers of movie music in the 1930s. Among those greats was Erich Korngold, whose film credits include the original “Robin Hood,” “Captain Blood,” and many others. Korngold’s Second String Quartet will top the evening off with soaring melodies and a very wild waltz.

Tickets for this performance are available on the Bay College website, at the box office, or at the door. Admission is $5 for students and faculty and $10 general admission.
