Man injured after crashing into building
MANISTIQUE — Manistique Public Safety Officers were called to a serious motor vehicle crash on the 200 block of South Cedar Street, downtown Manistique, at 8:12 p.m., Monday. Officers determined the vehicle had been driving recklessly northbound from Oak and South Cedar and crashed into a vacant business located at 244 South Cedar St., the former Chuck Renze Ford dealership.
The only occupant in the vehicle was a 32-year-old Manistique man who was found to be in serious condition by Manistique EMS. The man was immediately transported to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital, was stabilized, and then transported to Upper Peninsula Health Systems Hospital in Marquette.
The accident remains under investigation and alcohol is considered to be a factor in the accident. There was no injuries to any other persons. The former Renze Ford dealership building, owned by James and John Creighton of Manistique, received major damage and the vehicle involved, a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis is considered to be a total loss.
