Shiner appointed to Manistique council

MANISTIQUE — An appointment has been made to fill a vacancy on the Manistique City Council. This decision was made by the council during its regular meeting March 13.

Kimberly Shiner was sworn in at the meeting.

Shiner was one of three applicants considered by the council. She filled the seat formerly occupied by Paul Furman, who resigned from the council effective Jan. 1 after being elected county sheriff in the November 2016 general election.

Letters of interest for the position were accepted through March 9. Along with Shiner’s letter, letters of interest from Brian Marks and Eric Sherbinow were considered.

Shiner’s term will last until the end of the year. The post will be on the ballot in Manistique’s city election on Nov. 7.
