Gardening program coming to library

ESCANABA — Area gardeners will be able to learn how to plant a more diverse garden during a program at the Escanaba Public Library. The presentation will be held Wednesday, April 19, at 6 p.m. by gardening enthusiast Sue Robishaw. She will show how to incorporate more diversity into growing areas, whether lawn, field, garden or orchard. She will discuss how to have fun weaving layers together, expanding the

edges, for healthier, happier spaces. She will also discuss and offer ideas and tips for getting your creation going and keep it growing–providing food, shelter and pleasure for you, family, friends and nature.

Robishaw, a local resident, has had her hands in the dirt growing food since she and her husband, Steve Schmeck, moved to their backwoods off-grid Upper Peninsula homestead in 1978. With a large organic garden and expanding orchard she enjoys the challenge and fun of discovering what she can grow in this short season area. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Escanaba Public Library and is free of charge. No registration is required.
