Applicants sought for CUPPAD mini grants

ESCANABA — The Central Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Regional Commission (CUPPAD) based in Escanaba, announces that the 2017 “Prosperous Places Mini Grant Program” is accepting applications now until June 1.

Place making is a community-based approach to the planning, design and management of spaces that have local and regional importance.

Examples of place making projects include community gardens, farmers markets, pedestrian plazas/walkways, trails and paths, playgrounds, murals, and other forms of public art. In 2016, 17 projects totaling $60,000 were awarded. This year the amount available to grant is the same, made possible from a state grant award from the Regional Prosperity Initiative.

Grants up to $5,000 are available on a competitive basis through CUPPAD now until June 1, 2017 to support projects taking place between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018.

Awards will be considered based on project’s consistency to the published guidelines, demonstrated community support and financial need, and to the most strategic, high impact and creative projects proposed.

Eligible applicants include the nonprofit organizations, tribes, city, village, township and county governments within the boundaries of Alger, Delta, Dickinson, Marquette, Menominee, and Schoolcraft counties.

Applications and guidelines are available on CUPPAD’s website: http://www.cuppad.org/place-making-mini-grant-program/ or may be requested by contacting CUPPAD at (906) 786-9234. For more information, contact Emilie Schada at CUPPAD at (906) 786-9234 ext. 1380 or eschada@cuppad.org
