New session of BAC Toddler Art classes

ESCANABA–The second session of Toddler Art classes, which run Thursdays, begins Feb. 23, with subsequent classes March 2, 9, 16, 23, and April 6, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., at the Bonifas Arts Center (BAC).

Toddlers, accompanied by their caregivers, can try a variety of hands-on art stations, learning while creating. Music and story-time along with creative play designed to nurture imagination, language, communication, problem solving, and motor skills is offered and taught by Professional Musician and Music Educator Lorne Watson. Classes are offered to toddlers mobile to age 3.

According to Watson, even if parents work diligently on these skills with toddlers at home, each toddler still will benefit from classes.

“It’s great for kids to interact,” he said.

Watson explained each toddler working with Play-Doh will create something different, and when they see each other’s art it “expands horizons,” and gives each toddler a new perspective about what is possible. This allows the toddlers, along with their parents or caregivers, to “learn as a community,”said Watson.

There will be no class March 30 due to spring break, but caregivers and toddlers still can visit the BAC that day and use free art supplies at the Creative Corner.

Each Toddler Art class is $5, or $25 for the entire six-class session.
