New church joins Hope at the Inn

ESCANABA — Harbor Lights Church of God becomes Hope at the Inn’s 13th and newest host parish. Pastor Anthony Morrison recently moved his parish to the former Franklin Elementary School at 612 2nd Ave, So. in Escanaba.

With building renovations completed, the parish committed to hosting Delta County’s rotating homeless shelter for the week of Feb. 26. Trained Volunteers are still needed to fill shifts on various dates that week. To see where volunteers are needed, call Doug 241-0690 or Pastor Tony 420-1055, or view online at: www.HopeAtTheInn.org – “Volunteer for a Shift” page.

The shelter has provided nearly 700 bed nights and 252 meals to 37 unduplicated Guests since opening for its 4th season on November 6, 2016. Hope for the Day caseworker has helped several Guests in securing housing and numerous other services and benefits. The shelter will close for the season in April, but the caseworker will continue to be available for guest support.

The last new volunteer training for the season is scheduled for Thursday, March 2, at All Saints Church at 715 Wisconsin Ave in Gladstone. The session starts at 7 p.m. and runs about 75 minutes — no pre-registration needed. Attendees will lean about the shelter concept and specific duties for each shift. Trained volunteers may consider attending as an opportunity for a refresher on the latest procedures.

Donations are always appreciated and may be sent to HATI c/o The Salvation Army, POB 424, Escanaba, MI 49829, or call Mjr. Ralph Hansen at 786-0590.
