Foundation funds fire safety education
Community Foundation For Delta County Board of Chair Charles Becker, middle, presents Escanaba Public Safety Director Robert LaMarche, right, and Public Safety Office Tabitha D. Marchese with a grant check to purchase fire safety material. The Community Foundation Board and its Youth Advisory Committee each provided the funds for this grant. “Winters in the Upper Peninsula will often time’s mean there is a much higher fire hazard risk due to the increasing number of homes using wood to heat their homes for use in their fireplaces. Creosote buildup in the chimney is a potentially serious fire hazard and the cause of many home fires. We greatly appreciate our local fire departments doing everything they can to educate people about the fire danger which many actually save some people’s lives,” Becker said. LaMarche thanked both the Foundation and its Youth Advisory Committee for the grant.
