Beach conference set for October
MARQUETTE – The Superior Watershed Partnership (SWP), in cooperation with the city of Marquette, is co-hosting the annual Great Lakes Beach Association Conference Oct. 4 -7. This international event will bring together a wide variety of stakeholders including researchers, tourism officials, government agencies, beach communities, business representatives, environmental organizations, educators and more. The conference will take place at the Marquette Regional History Center.
The Great Lakes Beach Conference provides an opportunity to hear from top experts in their fields about the current status of Great Lakes beaches, current science and research, successful beach restoration projects, new tourism initiatives and some transformations of Great Lakes community waterfronts. There will also be a sneak preview of the Fresh Coast Film Festival which features many Great Lakes films. The keynote speaker is Calum McPhail of the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency talking about similar beach protection programs in Scotland. The conference will include presentations, field trips, boat trips, a Taste of Marquette and more. Local musicians Jerry Mills and Hozz will perform at conference receptions.
