Column: Chamber dinner has Octoberfest theme

ESCANABA — Delta County Chamber of Commerce will again celebrate the successes of our community at its annual dinner. Octoberfest is scheduled for Oct. 11 at the Island Resort and Casino. The event provides an opportunity to call attention to and celebrate all the positive activity in Delta County.

The evening will feature several highlights. Participants of Delta Force Leadership program will graduate. This group has completed a 10-month program focusing on leadership and community development. They have explored; local and regional government, health and social services, law and order, education, media, environment, history and culture and leadership. This is a powerful program, we hope we have sparked in the graduates the desire to continue to question and explore their own leadership potential. Many of our current community leaders are past graduates and continue to facilitate and mentor participants.

The Chamber is always on the lookout for the best of the best and each year seeks out individuals and businesses who are making a difference in our community to recognize at the dinner. This year awards will be given in the following categories: Educational Excellence, Community Ambassador, Century Award, Delta Force Alum Outstanding Contribution, Business of the Year and two themed awards that are consistent with our Octoberfest theme, Danka Schoeon or special thank you and Schottenhamel that goes to a Chamber member who has gone above and beyond expectations. These coveted awards celebrate and honor the high caliber of people and businesses that make Delta County a better place to live and work. If you would like to honor an outstanding Chamber member or business consider nominating them today.

The following individuals will be inducted to the 2019 Chamber Board of Directors: Caren Crawford, Crawford Funeral Home; Christine Bauer, Walmart; Deb Doyle, BDD Associates; Josh Durst, Edward Jones; Sue Helgemo, Schneider, Larche, Haapala & Co.; Scott Herioux, Hannahville Indian Community/Island Resort and Casino; Jesse Huff, Radio Results Network; Jolee Hughes, Taylor, Lord & Hughes Insurance; Kelly Jefferson, OSF Healthcare; Jennifer LaChance, Bink’s Wine and Beverages; Pamela Lauscher, Verso; Ed Legault, Escanaba Downtown Development Authority; Brenda Lippens, Delta County Credit Union; James Olsick, DTE Energy and Allie Prim, Upper Peninsula State Bank.
