AMASA, Mich. – On Sunday, March 10, the Second Sunday Folk Dance series will welcome Michigan-based singer-songwriter Kitty Donohoe as the featured concert guest.

Michigan Emmy award-winning songwriter Kitty Donohoe was born into a large, creative family outside of Detroit and has been “making up” songs for as long as she can remember. She describes her music as “folky, bluesy, Irishy, American, Canadianish.” “All Music Guide” says she draws from her roots to create music that is uniquely her own — music that is ‘haunting, melodic and literate.”

With a love of language, an innate sense of melody, and the soul of a storyteller, she backs herself on piano, guitar and cittern, but she sees these skills as mostly providing the foundation for the music she writes, both songs and instrumentals.

Kitty’s latest CD, “The Irishman’s Daughter” combines her original pieces with some traditional music and is getting great reviews.

The opening act of White Water will start promptly at 4 p.m. CT. The event is held at the Fortune Lake Camp in Crystal Falls. After the concert portion of the evening, the Front Parlor Dance Band and dance caller Steve Kickert will provide dance music and instruction until 7 p.m. Dean and Bette Premo organize and host the Second Sunday series.
