Story Hour Saturday

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Public Library will be holding Story Hour at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16. Students from the Escanaba French Club will be presenting Story Hour this month with a French flair. Enjoy stories, French songs, and a fun craft.

Story Hour is for children 4 years and older. This is a free event and no registration is required.

Ghost Riders to perform at Amvets tonight

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring The Ghost Riders country band from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, March 15. The public is welcome.

Manistique American Legion March meeting

MANISTIQUE — The American Legion Post 83 of Manistique will meet at the VFW Hall on Maple Street at 7 p.m. on March 20.

Healing prayer service

ESCANABA — Fr. Ryan Ford will be leading a healing service at St. Anne Church, 817 South Lincoln Road, Escanaba on Thursday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m. The service is not a mass and is for those in need of a physical, emotional, relational or spiritual healing.

Escanaba Eagles ­breakfast set for March­

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles 1088 will serve breakfast 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 17 at the Eagles Hall, located at 608 Ludington Street in Escanaba.

There is a fee to attend the breakfast. The public is welcome to attend.

Advanced Lions Club to meet March 28

WELLS — All volunteer and service-minded individuals are welcome to join the friends and family-based Advanced Lions Club.

The next one-hour gathering is scheduled for Thursday, March 28 at 6 p.m. at the Wells Township Hall. Email inquiries to bdnlclub@yahoo.com.

Delta Gamma Kappa scholarship offered

ESCANABA — The Delta Kappa Gamma Society has announced that it will again award a local high school scholarship to a senior girl planning a career in education. Delta Kappa Gamma is an international organization of women educators who promote the professional and personal growth of women educators.

Delta Kappa Gamma supports and encourage educational excellence and intercultural understanding. The Beta Sigma chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma is composed of Escanaba, Menominee, and Iron Mountain-Kingsford.

Previous local winners of this scholarship were: 2018 – a Bark River student, 2017 – Erica Rubick (Rapid River), 2016 – Mackenzie Leisner (Escanaba), 2015 – Mikaela Jefferson (Escanaba), 2014 – Kristen Leigh Bergstrom (Escanaba), 2013 – Anissa Lynne Godfrey (Gladstone), 2012 – Margaret A. Rose (Escanaba), 2011 – Lauren Klienman (Escanaba), 2010 – Jordan Dalgord (Rapid River), 2009 – Whitney Veihl (Bark River), and 2008 – Emily Robinson (Bark River).

Senior girls planning a career in education from the Delta Schoolcraft area can learn further details about this scholarship from their high school guidance counselor. Applications are due April 26, 2019. Any questions can be directed to Rose at 786-5674 or Jeanne at 789-0110.

St. Thomas pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Thomas Church will hold a pasty sale March 18 and 19. Pasties are available with or without rutabaga.

Pick up will be at St. Thomas Parish Hall, 1820 9th Ave North in Escanaba from 2 to 5 p.m. To order, call 789-9205.

Orders will be taken until 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 17.
