LANSING (AP) –When it comes to Christmas movies, Michigan prefers the “oldie but a goody” approach.

According to a study conducted by StreamingObserver.com titled “The Christmas Movie Your State is Most Obsessed With,” Michigan prefers the 1942 classic “Holiday Inn” above all others.

Directed by Mark Sandrich and starring film icons Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, among others, the feel-good tale tells the story of a crooner and a hoofer who vie for the affections of a beautiful up-and-coming performer at an inn which is only open on holidays.

The film received a 1943 Academy Award for Best Original Song (Irving Berlin for “White Christmas”), as well as Academy Award nominations for Best Score (Robert Emmett Dolan) and Best Original Story (Berlin).

Streaming Observer, which tracks developments in streaming technology, used data from Rotten Tomatoes and other public sources to compile the most-popular Christmas movies of all time.

The team then partnered with Mindnet Analytics and used Google Trends data to determine which Christmas movie each state was most obsessed with relative to other states.

Michigan was the only state where “Holiday Inn” was considered the favorite. The most common films selected include Home Alone, Gremlins, Scrooged, and Die Hard (yes, it was considered a Christmas movie.)

Surprisingly, there wasn’t a single state where the 1946 classic “It’s a Wonderful Life” was the holiday movie residents were most obsessed with, according to the study.
