SERA annual meeting rescheduled for Dec. 13

ESCANABA — The State Employee Retirees Association (U.P. Chapter 16) Annual Meeting is rescheduled for Thursday, Dec. 13. Members should make plans to attend the 1:30 p.m. meeting at the Escanaba State Building.

At the meeting, members will nominate and elect three new board members. To elect the board members, eleven or more SERA member must be in attendance. After the nomination-election, board members will meet and elect officers to conduct chapter affairs and business for 2019.

Legion breakfast Sunday

GLADSTONE — The American Legion Post 71, of Gladstone, will be serving breakfast Sunday, Dec. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. The public is welcome. There will be no steak dinner during the month of ­December.

Free Christmas ­dinner at Memorial UMC

GLADSTONE — A free Christmas Day dinner will be served at Memorial United Methodist Church in Gladstone.

The menu will include a full homemade dinner of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, rolls, and pie.

Serving will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. The front entrance will open for diners at 11:30 a.m. and seating will begin at 11:50 a.m. Shut-ins in Gladstone, Rapid River, and Escanaba can request delivered meals by calling 428-4199 no later than Thursday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m.

Reservations to dine at the church are not needed and take-out is available. The church is fully handicapped accessible.

Persons interested in volunteering to help with the dinner can call 428-4199.

The churches providing this meal are All Saints Catholic Church, First Lutheran, Memorial United Methodist Church, Trinity Episcopal, and United Evangelical Covenant. Various individuals and service organizations have also assisted in helping with funding, food items, and volunteers.

Audubon Club to meet Wednesday in Escanaba

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Audubon Club will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in Room 961 in the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College. This meeting is open to anyone interested in birding. There is no charge.

Regular members are encouraged to attend as this is the meeting where arrangements for the group’s annual Christmas Bird Count will be discussed.

MARSP Christmas party

MANISTIQUE — MARSP members from Schoolcraft and Eastern Delta counties will gather for a Christmas party/gift exchange at the Comfort Inn on 617 East Lakeshore Drive in Manistique on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 11:30 a.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring nonperishable food items or paper products for our area food pantries.

Rapid River Readers to meet Thursday at Jack’s

RAPID RIVER — Rapid Readers’ December novel, “Right Ho, Jeeves” by P. G. Wodehouse, will be discussed on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River.

January’s title is Hendricks and Pekhanen’s “The Wife Between Us.”

The group meets on the second Thursday of the month in Rapid River. New members are welcome. Contact Peg Netchey at 428-9668 with any questions.

Legion Post 340 to meet

HERMANSVILLE — The Floriano-Stecker-Kelly Post 340 of Hermansville will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Club Rooms in Hermansville.
