Purple pancakes for Alzheimer’s

POWERS — In recognition of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, a cause that is near and dear to Pinecrest Medical Care Facility, there was a purple pancake breakfast fundraiser held in Pinecrest’s multipurpose room Wednesday morning.

Activities Director Cheryl Rochon said this was the facility’s first ever purple pancake breakfast fundraiser, but the hope is to make this an annual event.

Everything in the room, from the table cloths to the staff members in attendance, was decked out in purple.

“Everything is purple — even the lights outside that shine on the building at night are purple,” Rochon said. “Residents are also wearing purple ribbon stickers.”

Alzheimer’s awareness is represented by the color purple.

The event was open for all community members, and there were purple pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee served from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Leading up to the fundraiser, purple t-shirts were sold and purple bracelets for $1 were available for purchase at the event. All of the proceeds from the t-shirt sale, bracelet sale and free will donations that were collected at the breakfast went to the Alzheimer’s Association of Marquette.
