Story Hour at the Escanaba Public Library

ESCANABA — On Nov. 17 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., children ages 4 and up are invited to Story Hour at the Escanaba Public Library. The event is a library classic, featuring stories, songs, special guests and activities on a theme. This week’s theme is Thanksgiving. Children will meet in the story room at the library.

This is a free event, and no registration is required. The Escanaba Public Library is located at 400 Ludington St. in downtown Escanaba.

Christmas cookie sale

ESCANABA — First Presbyterian Church, located at 819 1st Ave. South, Escanaba, will have its annual Christmas cookie sale on Saturday, Dec. 8 beginning at 10 a.m.

All kinds of cookies, homemade, fancy, old-fashioned and decorated, will be for sale by the pound.

St. Anthony, St. Thomas Christmas Bazaar

ESCANABA — The St. Anthony and St. Thomas Annual Christmas Dinner and Bazaar will take place Sunday, Dec. 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Thomas Parish Hall, located at 1820 9th Ave. N. in Escanaba. Serving will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children 5 and under are free with an adult. Takeout is available.

The event will also feature a bake sale, silent auction, raffles, 50/50, silver dollar, and craft sale. All are welcome.

Hunters’ Turkey Dinner Saturday in Rapid River

RAPID RIVER — The Annual Hunters’ Turkey Dinner will be held at the Walter W. Cole Post 301 in Rapid River on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. Children age 4 and under eat free.

DAV meeting is Dec. 3

The next scheduled meeting for DAV Chapter 24 will be Dec. 3 at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris. This will be the Christmas party, also.

Drinks will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. There will be a fee per person. DAV 24 members can bring their spouses, as well.

Legion to sell meat pies

GLADSTONE — American Legion Post 71, of Gladstone, will be selling meat pies on Dec 7. To order, call 906-428-1050.

Elks memorial service

ESCANABA — Each year, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks remembers and honors departed members with a memorial service. The Escanaba Elks Lodge 354 will conduct their annual memorial service for deceased Elks as Exalted Ruler Steve Victorson and his officers will perform the Ritual Ceremony in the Lodge, located at 510 Ludington Street, Escanaba.

The deceased Elks of the past year are: Raymond Beauchamp, Norman Boutilier, Dave Gillis, Dennis Hoegh, Cory Johnson, John Johnson, Edgar Larche, Lester Legault, William Lemire lll, Richard Mead, Leslie Ruohomaki, Don Scott and Robert Shepich.

Following the ceremony, the Elks Auxiliary will serve lunch for family members and friends in the Elks’ dining room. The public is welcome.

Bazaar, lunch Nov. 17 at Holy Family Church

GLADSTONE — Holy Family Church will be holding its fifth annual Fall Bazaar and Luncheon Saturday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Soup, salads and sandwiches will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with homemade pies and bars for dessert. Homemade crafts and baked goods made by local artists and community members will be available for purchase. The event is sponsored by the Ladies Altar Society of Holy Family Church.

44th Deer Hunters’ Ball

PERKINS — The Perkins Lions Club will host the 44th Annual Deer Hunters Ball on Nov. 17 in downtown Perkins. Doors open at 7 p.m. Music for dancing will be provided by AJ the DJ until midnight.
