Library Friends host card and game night

GLADSTONE — The Friends of the Gladstone Library will host their annual fall Card Party and Game Night on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the library.

Groups should reserve a table by calling Judy Wyckoff at 428-5263. Other tables will be reserved for individuals who wish to come and join a group for the evening. There will also be a Mahjong table this year.

There will be a silent auction and a pie social. A “Reader’s Basket” will be given away as a door prize.

Bring your own games or round up a group to play bridge. Tickets are can be purchased from Wyckoff, other Friends or at the library. Proceeds go to supplement children’s programs and activities such as the reading programs and story hours.

Bay Sages meet today

ESCANABA — The next meeting of the Bay Sages will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. at the MTEC Building on North 30th Street.

The featured speaker will be Dan Kari, MDOT regional transportation manager from the Crystal Falls office. He will be providing a history of the Escanaba River bridge project and construction update.

Members and guests are welcome to attend meetings of the Bay Sages, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting lifelong learning opportunities for older adults. Refreshments will be served.

DAV meeting is Nov. 5

ESCANABA — The next sscheduled meeting for the DAV Chapter 24 will be held on Monday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Military Order of the Purple Heart building, located at 1202 Sheridan Road, Escanaba. All disabled veterans are welcome.

MARSP Menominee County Chapter meeting

MENOMINEE — The Menominee County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will meet on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Little Nugget Clubhouse on East County Road 338 in Carbondale. Registration begins at 11 a.m., Central time.

The luncheon will be served at noon, followed by the program and a short business meeting. There is a cost for the lunch.

The program will feature speakers on two different topics. Tonia Kotecki and Debbie Raygo from Nicolet Bank will give information about how to prevent identity theft. Dennis Morton will inform members about the Project Lifesaver program.

Rock Dance set Nov. 11

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Road, on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. The public is invited to enjoy the music of Ron Jay & The Country Strangers.

There is a cost for the dance, and a free will donation lunch will be available. For more information, call Alice at 356-6588.

All proceeds benefit the senior corporation.

Rapid Readers pick novel for Nov. 8

RAPID RIVER — Jessica Zueller’s “Pretty Is What Changes” is choice for Rapid Readers’ Nov. 8 meeting. Discussion will take place at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River at 10 a.m. The December reading selection is “Right Ho, Jeeves,” by Sir Pelham Wodehouse.

Lecture series features Monica Mortel Nov. 15

ESCANABA — The East Ludington Gallery, 1007 Ludington St. Escanaba, will be having a Lecture series the third Thursday of every Month.This month will be Monica Mortel – Alcohol Ink on Tile

It will be on Nov. 15th from 7 to 8 p.m. and it is open to the public – free of charge.
