GARDEN — The Garden Peninsula Historical Society paid tribute to eleven present and former residents of the Garden Peninsula who turned 80 at some point during this year.

The celebration, which took place in the Garden Community Building on Sept. 16, marks the 41st year the society has recognized its senior residents.

Honorees were given a corsage or boutonniere and photographed. Over 200 friends, relatives and neighbors were on hand for the afternoon celebration.

The welcome address was given by Historical Society President Connie Wilson, and Darrel Pizzala gave the blessing. Volunteers and society members prepared and served the buffet.

New members were honored with certificates and honorary membership in the GPHS.

Emcee Shirley LaValley read biographies submitted by the honorees, and picture boards brought by family members allowed attendees to reminisce about the people and places shown.

Honorees included Duane St. Ours, Gary Lang, Russ Hawley, Allen Gauthier, Robert Earles, Dale Carley, Miriam Collins Smith, Marie Ouradnik Pichette, Pat Hawley, Karen Casey Pizzala, and Ethel Carley.
