Yooper Service Dogs conference Oct. 6
ESCANABA — Yooper Service Dogs (YSD) is hosting an all-day event on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for people with all kinds of disabilities that are considering a dog to assist them. The event will take place in Escanaba at Bay College in the Joseph Heriman University Center, room 952.
This event will feature speakers from Paws With A Cause, SuperiorLand Pet Partners, Leader Dogs for the Blind, YSD, and the Superior Alliance for Independent Living (SAIL). YSD will also be leading a short class on the difference between service, emotional support, skilled companions, and therapy animals; and a class on how to navigate service animal law. YSD’s service dog trainer will also be on hand to answer questions from people training their own service animals.
Business owners, the media, and members of the public are welcome to attend.

American Legion steak feed set for Sept. 27
GLADSTONE — The American Legion Post 71 of Gladstone will be having a steak feed on Sept. 27. They will be serving from 4:30 until 7 p.m. Members and the public are welcome. Takeouts are available – call 906-428-1050 after 4:30 p.m.
DAV to hold meeting
ESCANABA — The next scheduled meeting for the DAV Chapter 24 will be held on Monday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Military Order of the Purple Heart building, located at 1202 Sheridan Road, Escanaba. All disabled veterans are welcome.
Purple Heart 1976 meeting planned
ESCANABA — The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 1976 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the clubhouse building, 1202 Sheridan Road. IXL Historical Museum fall festival Saturday
HERMANSVILLE — The IXL Historical Museum in Hermansville will hold its annual fall festival and farmers’ market on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors are welcome to bring a table or two to sell garden produce, flowers, seeds, perennials, crafts, gifts, jewelry and specialty foods. Hot pasties, hot coffee, water will be available for purchase, as well as baked sweets. There will be face painting for the children and fun old car rides.

Amvets host Country Slingers tonight in Esky
ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring country band Country Slingers Friday, Sept. 21 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The public is welcome.
MARSP to meet Oct. 2
GLADSTONE — The October meeting of MARSP will be held on Oct. 2 at noon at St. Joseph’s Parish in Perkins. A chicken dinner will be served for a fee.
Lewis Hage from U.P. Home and Hospice will present a program on grief counseling. There will also be a review of the audit.
Members are asked to bring used candles, which will be delivered to Lakestate Industries.
