Annual Forest Service retirees’ breakfast

ESCANABA — The annual Forest Service Retiree’s breakfast will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. at the Drifters Restaurant in Escanaba. If you plan to attend, contact Pat at 906-786-7926.

AAUW to hold fall kick-off luncheon Sept. 22

ESCANABA — The American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold its fall kick-off luncheon on Sept. 22 at Hereford and Hops. A short business meeting will start at 11 a.m. followed by lunch. Those attending will be able to order off the menu.

The guest speaker will be Theresa Nelson. She is currently the only woman on the Delta County Commission. Nelson will discuss her career in public service, women in politics and her position on the commission. Please RSVP to Judy at 906-789-1905 by Sept. 19.

AAUW is open to men and women holding an associate’s degree or higher.

Lecture series at East Ludington Gallery

ESCANABA — The East Ludington Gallery, 1007 Ludington St. Escanaba, will be having a lecture series the third Thursday of every month.

This month the lecture will be Beth Cox presenting “How Glass Paperweights are Made.”

It will be on Sept. 20 from 7 to 8 p.m., and it is open to the public free of charge.

Toastmasters meets Wednesdays in Esky

ESCANABA — Bay De Noc Toastmasters develops communication and leadership skills every Wednesday, except the last Wednesday of the month, at noon in the Penstar Building, located at 1431 N. 26th St., Escanaba.

Program on effective ­communication set

ESCANABA — The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting an educational program/talk about effective communication at the Escanaba Public Library (400 Ludington Street) from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 20.

Fall festival at the IXL Historical Museum

HERMANSVILLE — The IXL Historical Museum in Hermansville will hold its annual fall festival and farmers’ market on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vendors are welcome to bring a table or two to sell garden produce, flowers, seeds, perennials, crafts, gifts, jewelry and specialty foods. Hot pasties, hot coffee, water will be available for purchase, as well as baked sweets. There will be face painting for the children and fun old car rides.

Setup is at 9 a.m. A donation per table is requested. Call 906-236-5163 for more info. The event will be cancelled if the weather is bad.

Kiwanis, Key Club chicken barbecue set

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone – Rapid River Kiwanis and Key Clubs will present their annual chicken barbecue on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gladstone Middle School/Jones School Cafeteria.

Home and business delivery is available by calling 428-2261 by Oct. 5.

Tickets are available at Pat’s Foods, Gladstone City Hall, Darmogray Jewelers. Tickets can also be purchased from any Gladstone-Rapid River Kiwanis, Gladstone Key Club and Rapid River Key Club member.

Other items available to purchase will be Sayklly’s caramel apples both with and without nuts or dark chocolate and sea salt caramel apples.
