Legion Auxiliary Unit 71 to hold special meeting

GLADSTONE — The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 71 of Gladstone will be holding a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, located at 802 Delta Ave. Gladstone.

Shane Goodchild benefit

ESCANABA — There will be a benefit on Sept. 22 at Crazy Joe’s Pool Hall for Shane Goodchild.

The benefit will be held from 4 p.m. until closing. There will be door prizes, bucket raffles, 50/50 drawings and music.

Food is included with the admission fee.

Cathy Bolton to perform Aug. 22 in Bark River

BARK RIVER — The Rheaume-Knauf Bark River American Legion Post 438 Auxiliary, of Bark River, will sponsor singer, songwriter, guitarist, and international recording artist Cathy Bolton on Wednesday, Aug. 22. Bolton will be performing during an ice cream social at the senior center on D Road in Bark River, begining at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.

Bolton will present selections from her 10th album of songs, “Back To My Roots – Volume II,” a folk album celebrating 25 years of music, as well as songs from her other albums.

The concert will be held outside in the park, and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved inside the senior center building.

The cost of the event is a free will offering, with all proceeds going to the U.P. Honor Flight.

Come and Dance With Us event in Trenary

TRENARY — On Sunday, Aug. 19, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Trenary Community Building in Trenary, there will be a “Come and Dance with Us” event. Music will be provided by Old Folks.

Admission will be charged. Everyone is welcome.

Purple Heart 1976 meeting on Aug. 30

ESCANABA — The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH) Chapter 1976 will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at the clubhouse building, 1202 Sheridan Road.

Gladstone senior lunches

GLADSTONE — Come to the Gladstone Senior Center for entertainment and lunch every weekday at 11:30 a.m.

If you are age 60 or older, you can get a delicious balanced meal for a donation. There is a different meal each day, and a monthly schedule of the meals is available at the senior center.

Come in to learn more about the opportunities that the center has to offer.

Compassionate Friends planned for Aug. 23

ESCANABA — Anyone who has had a child die in their family is invited to attend the meeting on Thursday, Aug. 23 of the Southern Upper Peninsula Chapter of the Compassionate Friends.

The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. in the front conference room at Escanaba High School. Use Third Ave. South off the highway and make a quick left into the front of the high school parking lot. Then use the front entrance and once inside, take an immediate left to the third room on the left.

The Compassionate Friends provides highly personal comfort, hope and support for every family experiencing the death of a son or daughter, brother or sister, or a grandchild, and helps others better assist the grieving family. The group has more than 625 chapters in the United States.
