MARQUETTE — This year’s annual Pasty Picnic for the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will celebrate local Chapter 1900’s 35th anniversary.

Chapter members with more the 30 years of membership will be honored at the July 25 gathering at the Crossroads Restaurant south of Marquette. They include: Ken Andersen of L’Anse; Richard Elegreet of Rapid River; Donald Hill of Rock; Andrew Grgurich of Calumet; Dorothy Harjala of Copper City; and James Constance, Donald Constance, Ruth Garn, Robert Oberg and Joseph Jezek, all of Marquette. Charter member Ingrid Erickson of Marquette will also be recognized.

The luncheon is free for any Chapter 1900 member and one guest of that member. Members must register for the meal by July 18, by contacting Diana Peterson at (906) 225-0333, or Clyde and Maggie Morgan at (906) 475-0362

NARFE, one of America’s oldest and largest associations, was founded in 1921 with the mission of protecting the earned rights and benefits of America’s active and retired federal employees.

A group of Marquette County federal retirees received a NARFE charter on March 11, 1983, in Gwinn. Early chapter members were mostly K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base retirees and others from government agencies in the county. Now, 35 years later, Chapter 1900 members include federal retirees from various government agencies throughout the central and western Upper Peninsula. The Chapter meets monthly, except December, usually at the Marquette Senior Center on Spring Street.
