ESCANABA — Northern United Federal Credit Union awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Matthew Swanson, a 2018 high school graduate. This is the thirteenth year the scholarships have been awarded, recognizing student members’ scholastic ability, personal integrity, and the enthusiasm to better humanity.

Swanson graduated from Gladstone High School. While in school, he was the president of the National Honor Society, was vice president of the student council, and was in robotics, Science Olympiad, bridge building, drama, cross county, tennis and track. This fall he will be attending Ferris State University, where he will be studying biochemistry and biotechnology with the hope of being accepted to medical school in the coming years.

Northern United Federal Credit Union is located at 123 South Lincoln Road in Escanaba. In believing in the youth of today, they are investing for years to come while living the philosophy of credit unions, “People helping people.”
