Students win Elks Americanism contests

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks Lodge #354 recently honored several area youth for their Americanism in the Michigan Elks Association contests.

The first awards were for the Elks Americanism coloring contest, which was open to first through fourth grades. In Division I (first and second grades) second-grader Mara Anderson of Holy Name School took second place in the State of Michigan. Also in Division I, second-grader Emma Parlato of Holy Name School took third place in the State of Michigan. In Division II (third and fourth grades) third-grader Rylie Mannebach of Lemmer Elementary School took first place in the State of Michigan. All the winners of the Americanism coloring contest were presented with a plaque with their colored picture on it along with a cash prize.

The next award was for the Elks Americanism Essay contest, which was open to fifth grade through eighth grade students. The Essays theme was “Why our veterans are America’s Heroes.” In Division II (seventh and eighth grades), seventh-grader Julian Cashen of Holy Name School was a third-place winner in the State of Michigan. He was awarded a plaque with his essay on it and a cash prize.

The Elks would like to congratulate all the area Americanism winners.
