Hours changed for Christian Closet in July

ESCANABA — Families and individuals in need will be welcome to visit the Christian Closet and select from an assortment of gently-used clothing and shoes of all sizes, non-perishable food items, household supplies, and more. Everything will be available free of charge.

The Christian Closet is located at the Escanaba Church of Christ building located in Soo Hill at 5079 18th Road, Escanaba.

The Christian Closet will be open on the first Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first Wednesday in July is the 4th, so the closet will be closed in observance of Independence Day. The Christian Closet will be open the following week on Wednesday, July 11.

Mix and Mingle events planned into 2019

ESCANABA — A schedule of Mix and Mingle community events for 2018-2019 has been released. Events include:

Saturday, Aug. 4 — ReCreating In the Great Outdoors, an adaptive recreational day for all to enjoy will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event includes shooting sporting clays, fishing, kayaking, and boat rides. Registration forms and waivers must be completed prior to the event.

Monday, Oct. 29 — A Halloween party (tentatively) at the Delta Plaza Mall will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event will include a costume contest, dinner and dancing.

Thursday, Feb. 14 — Bowling at the Bowl-A-Rama, dinner and dancing from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Monday, April 22 — A Spring Dance at Escanaba Civic Center will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Come have dinner, dance and socialize and make new friends. Casual attire is requested.

Monday, June 3 — A formal dance will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Island Resort and Casino.

There is a fee for each of the events listed. Transportation will be provided for individuals living in Gladstone and Escanaba.

Memorial UMC hosts summer VBS July 22-26

GLADSTONE — Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 1920 Lake Shore Drive in Gladstone, will kick off its vacation Bible school program “Rolling River Rampage” on Sunday, July 22.

The vacation Bible school will run each evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. through Thursday, July 26. A dinner will be served to participants at 5 p.m. at no charge.

Any child age four through fifth grade is eligible. There is no charge to participate in the vacation Bible school.

Please contact the church office at (906) 428-9311 to preregister. Preregistration is helpful but not required.

Sit and be fit class planned in Gladstone

GLADSTONE — Sit and be fit class will be on Monday and Wednesday, from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Gladstone Senior Center.

Cribbage in Gladstone

GLADSTONE — The Bay de Noc Peggers Club 218 will play each Monday at 7 p.m. at the Lake Bluff Retirement Village Community Center. Nine games of cribbage are played one-on-one, with one fourth of the players earning money.

The club has existed for over 20 years and members earn points that add up to awards from the American Cribbage Congress (ACC). Points are earned with two for a win, zero for a loss and three for a skunk.

Play begins at 7 p.m. each Monday New players are welcomed. Call Joe or Donna Aird at 428-3844 for more information.

Weekly Tai Chi classes held every Thursday

GLADSTONE — Tai Chi classes meet each Thursday from 10 until 11 a.m. at the Gladstone Senior Center.
