Wells Lions 52 Club ­raffle winner named

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of May 21 is Keith Lippens of Escanaba and Andy Kirt of Green Bay, Wis. Lippens and Kirt won $250 each. This was week 42 of the raffle.

Amvets Post 123 hosts Country Slinger Friday

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring the country band Country Slinger from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 25.

Volunteers needed to place veteran flags

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone American Legion Post 71 is seeking volunteers to help place flags on veterans’ graves on Friday, May 25 at 10 a.m. at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. Flags will be placed in honor of Memorial Day.

Daily activities planned at the senior center

HERMANSVILLE — The Hermansville Senior Center has various activities going on every week. Every day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., walking is available. A treadmills is also available. Morning coffee is also available everyday.

Every Tuesday and Friday, 15 games of bingo are played, starting at 12:45 p.m.

On Wednesday afternoons, enjoy a game of cards.

Craft day is the third Monday of the month.

Foot Clinic is on the third Tuesday of the month. The nurse arrives at 9 a.m. Bring a towel. Call the center to register for the foot clinic.

American Legion Post 540 ­breakfast planned

PERKINS — Take a ride out to enjoy the Perkins American Legion Post 540 Homemade Breakfast Buffet on May 27. A portion of the Memorial Day weekend profit will be donated to the UP Honor Flight.

Donations sought for Jacobetti veterans

ESCANABA — Those wishing to donate to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette can drop off items at the Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba.

Items can include Forever stamps, personal fans, watches with stretch bands, electric razors (cordless), personal CD players/radios, current magazines, and more.

The home for veterans is currently not accepting clothing protectors, and until further notice, will not accept lap robes and books due to an ample supply.

Salem confirmation class schedule set

ESCANABA –Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELS) 8th graders will be practicing for confirmation at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29.

The church will hold the 8th grade confirmation examination and pictures on Friday, June 1. The time will be announced at a later date.

Benefit for Cindy Stock

GLADSTONE — There will be a spaghetti feed benefit for Cindy Stock on Saturday, June 2 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cindy is a retired school teacher from Gladstone Area Schools. She has been in and out of the hospital since January in Arizona.

Stock was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. This condition causes her immune system to attack her nervous system. Currently, she has been in the hospital for the past two months, and is unable to walk.

Along with the Guillain-Barre syndrome, doctors have found lesions on her brain and a cancerous tumor on her kidney.

Friends and family are hosting the benefit dinner to help offset medical expenses.

There is a door charge for the benefit and dinner, but children five and under get in free. The event will also include bucket raffles, 50/50 raffles, a silent auction, and bake sale.

Monetary donations can also be made at Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union, under Cindy Stock Benefit.
