Soup and chili cook-off

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Seventh Day Adventist Church will be hosting a soup and chili cook-off to help support its local food pantry and community center on Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m. at the church located at 210 S. Lincoln Road in Escanaba.

Bring a homemade soup or chili and enter it for a chance to win a prize.

There is an entry fee to participate. Soup or chilies may not contain pork or seafood ingredients.

Final Story Hour Sunday

ESCANABA — The final story hour at the Escanaba Public Library will be held on Saturday, May 18 at 1:30 p.m.

The theme for the hour is horses and will feature fun stories, information on horses and rodeos and a craft.

Story hour is for children ages four and older. This a free event and no registration is required.

Wells Lions 52 club ­raffle winner announced

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of May 14 is Mike King of Escanaba. Lippens won $100. This was week 41 of the raffle.

Mix & Mingle returns

HARRIS — Enjoy an evening of dining and dancing during the Mix & Mingle Community Event. The theme of the evening is “City Nights.”

The event will take place on Monday, June 4 at the Island Resort and Casino from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is a fee for admission and reservations must be called in by May 21. Please call (906) 233-1319 to make a reservation.

When making a reservation, please indicate your gender. Guests will have a choice of a corsage or boutinniere.

Formal dress is encouraged but not required. Tuxedo rentals are available from Young’s Formal Wear. Please be measured by May 18 and inform them you are attending the commuity dance. Ladies formals are available through Brenda Crow. Please call (906) 233-1319.

Music at the event will be provided by Shane Larson, and a buffet dinner will be served between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Transportation is available for guests within the Escanaba and Gladstone city limits. Please call Brenda Crow and leave your name, address and phone number. You will be informed later when a bus will pick you up.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

ESCANABA — The National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI – Delta/Schoolcraft County Chapter will hold its next meeting on Thursday, May 17 at 6 p.m. in the general meeting room at Bay College Heirman University Center Room 961.

This will be the last meeting until Sept. 20. NAMI supports family and friends who are dealing with mental illness and their loved ones by educating each other and sharing experiences.

Dance in Rock June 10

ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior ­Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd, on Sunday, June 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. Come enjoy the music of The Country Hashbrowns.

Breakfast buffet at Legion Post 71 Sunday

GLADSTONE — American Legion Post 71 welcomes the public to an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet the third Sunday of each month.

Dance in Trenary

TRENARY — A dance will be held at the Trenary community building in Trenary on Sunday, May 20 from 1 to 5 p.m.

Music will be provided by members of the band “2 x 4” and others. There is a charge and a donation will be accepted for lunch.
