Rock-Perkins Choir to Perform Easter Cantata

PERKINS — On Sunday, March 25, the Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir will present their annual cantata. This year, the choir will be performing “What Love Is This?” They will present two concerts, one at 4 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock, and the second at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins. Fellowship and refreshments will follow each performance, and a free will offering will be gratefully accepted. All are encouraged to attend.

Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church events

ESCANABA — Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church has set its weekly events.

On Sunday, March 25 Bible study and Sunday school will be held at 9:15 a.m.

Bible class meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 27.

A Maundy Thursday worship service with Holy Communion will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29.

On Friday, a Good Friday worship will be held at 1 p.m.

Amvets feature Country Classic tomorrow night

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, are featuring the country and variety band Country Classic at 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday, March 23. Veterans and the public are welcome to join with a donation.

Elks Auxiliary dinner meeting set for April 5

ESCANABA – The Escanaba Elks Auxiliary will hold its monthly dinner/meeting on Thursday, April 5 at the Elks Lodge.

Social time will be at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and the meeting to follow. The meeting will feature a spring theme.

Reservations must be made by calling Shirley Gollach at 789-9306 by noon on Monday, April 2.

The automatic reservation list is in effect. Interested members are always welcome to attend.

SERA to meet April 2

ESCANABA — The State Employees Retirement Association (SERA) Upper Peninsula Chapter 16 has set the following schedule for meetings:

– Monday, April 2 at 1:30 p.m. (EDT) in the conference room of the State Building in Escanaba.

– Monday, May 7 at noon (EDT) there will be a luncheon at the Highland Golf Club, seven miles west of Escanaba. Reservations for the luncheon are due by April 30. Call Arlene at (906) 786-7199 or Frank at (906) 786-2965.

Rapid River Readers announce April novel

RAPID RIVER — The April novel for the Rapid River Readers is “Testing the Current “ by William McPherson. Discussion takes place at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River on Thursday, April 12 at 10 a.m.

If anyone is interested in joining the group, please call 428-9668. May’s choice of reading is “My Grandma Says That She’s Sorry” by Fredrik Backman (May 10).

Members should be gathering titles for additions to the reading list. Please get them to Helen by May get together. A synopsis of suggestions will be in order to make selections at the June 14 meeting.

Salvation Army ­assistance available

ESCANABA — Social service assistance from the Salvation Army is available 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the Community Services Building.

The Soup Kitchen is open noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Friday fish fries at American Legion

GLADSTONE — The American Legion Post 71 in Gladstone will be hosting fish fries every Friday during Lent from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Meals will be walleye and whitefish, along with sides of baked potato or french fries, beans, coleslaw and rolls.
