Free gardening series in Marquette Thursday

MARQUETTE — A free gardening series continues on Thursday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Marquette Missionary Church at 1804 Wright St., in Marquette. The “Growing Your Food in the U.P.” gardening series is open to everyone.

This session, entitled “Playin’ It Safe With Your Garden Produce” will be co-presented by Farmers Market Stalwarts, Treasa Sowa and Mary Kramer-Rabine. Treasa and Mary will share innovative tips and techniques home gardeners can use to safely harvest and prepare their garden produce. The series is sponsored by Transition Marquette County.

Republican Party meets this week at Bay

ESCANABA — The Delta County Republican Party will be holding its monthly meeting on March 15 at 7 p.m. in room 903 at the Heirman Center at Bay de Noc Community College. The general public is welcome.

Seventh Day Adventist food pantry hours

ESCANABA — The Community Service Center food pantry adjacent to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Escanaba is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday and Saturday.

Lenten Soup Supper and program tomorrow

GLADSTONE — Each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. the public is invited to join Trinity Episcopal Church in Gladstone for a Lenten soup supper. Eucharist will follow with a Lenten presentation on “Living Simply.”

The church is located at the corner of Dakota and 9th St. in Gladstone.

Grief Group meets March 21 at Drifter’s

ESCANABA — As an extension of their community grief groups, OSF Hospice will host a monthly luncheon for bereaved people to gather for informal conversation and support on the third Wednesday of the month throughout 2018. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (EST) at Drifter’s Family Restaurant in Escanaba, Mich.

Kiwanis Club holds meeting Wednesday

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone – Rapid River Kiwanis Club holds weekly meetings every Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 1212 Minneapolis Ave., Gladstone. Plan to attend a meeting and hear about ongoing activities in support of community kids.

The Kiwanis Club welcomes new members who desire to support area children. If you are interested in helping to fill weekend food backpacks for the 152 school children who would have little or no food to eat on weekends without these backpacks, your assistance is welcome. Backpacks are filled each Wednesday, starting at 3 p.m. for four Gladstone Schools and the Rapid River School.

Sit-n-fit exercise class

ESCANABA — Fitness chair exercises to improve strength, stretching, balance, flexibility and muscle will be held every Monday and Friday at 11 a.m. at the Escanaba Senior Center. Sign in at the office. The event is free.
