Christian Closet opens tomorrow in Escanaba

ESCANABA — Families and individuals in need will be welcome to visit the Christian Closet and select from an assortment of gently used clothing and shoes of all sizes, non-perishable food items, household supplies, and so much more. Everything will be available free of charge.

The Christian Closet is located at the Escanaba Church of Christ building located in Soo Hill at 5079 18th Road, Escanaba.

The closet will be open on the first Wednesday of every month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the next date being Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Day Services seeks printed materials

ESCANABA — Community Action Agency Adult Day Services, formerly Perspectives Adult Care Center, is in need of your old greeting cards, calendars, and magazines to be used in different activities.

The pictures will be used to make notepads, bookmarks, and daily placemats. Cards do not have to be taken apart, as they will be incorporated into an activity.

Items may be dropped off at Community Action Adult Day Services, located at the Gary Abrahamson Jr. Memory Care Center, 2635 1st Ave. S. in Escanaba (past West Highland, the last building on the left behind Bishop Noa Home) or at any senior center in the Delta County area.

Clothes Closet open to public in Gladstone

GLADSTONE — The Memorial United Methodist Clothes Closet is open each Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Gently used clothing is available for all. The church is located at 1920 Lake Shore Drive.

Daily activities planned at the senior center

HERMANSVILLE — The Hermansville Senior Center has various activities going on every week. Everyday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., walking is available, and a treadmill is also available. Morning coffee is available everyday.

Every Tuesday and Friday, 15 games of bingo are played, starting at 12:45 p.m.

Wednesday afternoons, enjoy a game of cards.

Craft day is the third Monday of the month.

Foot Clinic is on the third Tuesday of the month. The nurse arrives at 9 a.m. Bring a towel. Call the center to register for the foot ­clinic.

Taco Tuesday hosted by Legion Post 71 returns

GLADSTONE — American Legion Post 71 welcomes the public to Taco Tuesday, serving from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. each week at the Gladstone Legion Hall, 802 Delta Ave. Both hard and soft tacos are available, along with nachos and nachos supreme.

Escanaba Elks fish fries ­discontinued

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks has discontinued serving Friday fish fries until further notice.

However, the Elks will continue with the Wednesday pub baskets, Friday card raffle, monthly steak nights and, of course, Sunday brunch. The next brunch will be Feb. 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Elks 150th Anniversary Celebration will take place on Feb. 17 starting at 5 p.m. Food will be provided, and this event is open to the public. Come down to celebrate the Elks, your Lodge and all that Elkdom has to offer.

Sit-n-fit exercise class

ESCANABA — Fitness chair exercises to improve strength, stretching, balance, flexibility and muscle will be held every Monday and Friday at 11a.m. at the Escanaba Senior Center. Sign in at the office. The event is free.
