CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. — On Sunday, Jan. 14, the Second Sunday Folk Dance event features a concert by international touring performer and autoharp virtuoso Bryan Bowers. The concert and folk dance is held at the Fortune Lake Camp in Crystal Falls, Mich. and starts at 4 p.m. (CT).

White Water will perform a 25 minute opening concert set, and Bowers will immediately follow. After the concert, the Front Parlor Dance Band and dance caller Steve Kickert will provide dance music and instruction until 7 p.m. Dean and Bette Premo organize and host the Second Sunday concert/dance series. A full season schedule is available at www.secondsundayfolkdance.com.

Bryan Bowers has made the Second Sunday Folk Dance the anchor of his winter Midwest tour for many years. He is a master of the many-stringed autoharp and a compelling vocalist and storyteller. Between songs, he offers up tales from his life on the road. His selections transition easily from poignant ballads to raucous call and response songs.

Humor, love, death, tragedy, dogs, pigs, and trees make appearances as subjects of Bowers’ tunes. Traditional and original music get equal billing. Bowers’ creativity, talent, and enormous catalog of work have won him induction into Frets Magazine’s First Gallery of the Greats. This distinction put him alongside the likes of Chet Atkins, David Grisman, Stephan Grappelli, Itzhak Perlman, and Mark O’Connor. He is a force of nature that should be experienced.

There is an admission fee for the Second Sunday Folk Dance events, but children 15 and under are admitted free. The remaining line-up of guest musicians for the 33rd season includes Steve Kickert and Carrie Dlutkowski (Feb. 11), Gina Forsyth (March 11), and Joel Mabus (April 8). If you would like to sponsor the SSFD with a tax-deductable donation, contact Bette Premo at 906-822-7889.
