Wild Ones native plant group meets tonight

ESCANABA — The Central U.P. chapter of Wild Ones native plant group will hold their January meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in room 963 of the Heirman University Center at Bay College. This will be the annual business meeting, and members will share ideas on future presentations and activities, as well as have friendly discussion about native plant experiences and future gardening plans.

You can also bring native seeds to swap if you have any. Planting season will be here before you know it! Anyone interested in native plants or natural landscaping is encouraged to attend.

Wild Ones: Native Plants, Natural Landscapes promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant communities. Wild Ones is a not-for-profit environmental education and advocacy organization.

Happy Tails Story Time Saturday at shelter

ESCANABA –The Delta Animal Shelter in Escanaba will be hosting a Happy Tails Story Time for kids ages 3-5 years old on Saturday, Feb. 3 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

The story time is held the first Saturday of the month. There will be animal-related stories, followed by activities and an opportunity to meet some animal guests. There is no fee for this program, but each participant is asked to bring an item from the shelter’s wish list to help care for the shelter’s animals.

American Legion meets

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River American Legion meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Feb. 6.

Sons of the American Legion meets tomorrow

GLADSTONE — The next meeting for the Sons of the American Legion Squadron #71 will be held Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. The Sons meet at the American Legion located at 802 Delta Ave in Gladstone. If you are a male descendant of a veteran who served in the time of war or conflict, you are eligible for membership. Boy Scouts to hold roundtable Friday

RAPID RIVER — The Red Buck Sub District will hold a roundtable meeting on Friday, Feb. 2 from 7 p.m. to – 9 p.m. at the Rapid River Legion. A committee meeting will be held prior to the roundtable. Wells Lions 52 Club Raffle Winner

WELLS — The winner of the Wells Lions Club raffle for the week of Jan. 29 is Mark Lektzian of Gladstone. Lektzian won $100. This was week 26 of the raffle.

St. Thomas Church breakfast this Sunday

ESCANABA — St. Thomas the Apostle Church, located at 1820 9th Avenue North in Escanaba, will serve breakfast Sunday, Feb. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parish hall. The menu includes eggs, pancakes, sausage, potatoes, toast, coffee and juice. There is a cost to attend, but children age 5 and under are admitted free. All are welcome.

Delta Animal Shelter monthly meeting

ESCANABA — The Delta Animal Shelter’s monthly membership meeting will be held Monday, Feb., 5 at 5:30 p.m. at Ferdinand’s Mexican Restaurant in the back conference room. If you are looking for a way to become involved with the animal shelter, this group is a great way to do just that. Come down and see what the group is about.
