Rapid River Readers’ February Discussion
RAPID RIVER — Rapid Readers’ selections for February and March are “Bettyville,” by George Hedgman, and “The Giant’s House,” by Elizabeth McCraken.
The February meeting will include discussion of January’s book “Call the Nurse” by Mary J. MacLeod.
The group meets on the second Thursday of the month, weather permitting. Meetings take place at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River. New members are welcome.
The February get-together is Thursday, Feb. 8.
Yooper Reunion scheduled in Florida

Animal shelter’s story time this Saturday
ESCANABA — The Delta Animal Shelter will be holding “Happy Tails Story Time” on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at the shelter located in Escanaba.
Kids ages 3-5 years old are welcome. There will be animal related stories, followed by activities and an opportunity to meet some animal guests.
There is no fee for this program, but the shelter requests that participants each bring an item from their wish list to help the animals being cared for.

Safe Sitter babysitting class offered at Bay
ESCANABA — On Friday, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. a Safe Sitter course will be available. The course will provide participants with curriculum appropriate for the intellectual and emotional abilities of adolescents (must be 11 years old or older).
The curriculum is based on up-to-date information and injury prevention for specific age groups and emphasizes to adolescent the profound responsibility of nurturing and protecting children.
The class will be held at Bay College. There is a fee to attend. A pizza and juice lunch will be provided.

ESCANABA — The Esky Class of 1963 has scheduled its reunion for Aug. 8. Updated classmate contact information is needed.

Dance set for Feb. 11 at Rock senior center
ROCK — A dance will be held at the Rock Community/Senior Center, located at 3892 W. Mapleridge Rd, on Sunday, Feb. 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Music will be provided by Angels & Outlaws. There is a cost at the door; a free will donation will be accepted for lunch.

DAV holds meeting
ESCANABA — The next scheduled meeting for the DAV Chapter 24 will be held on Monday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Military Order of the Purple Heart building, 1202 Sheridan Road, Escanaba. All disabled veterans are welcome. Call Commander William Porath at (906) 280-0455 with any questions.
Cedar Creek Country Band performs Friday
ESCANABA –The Cedar Creek Country Band is scheduled to perform live Friday, Feb. 2, at the AMVETS Hall in Escanaba from 7 to 11 p.m. A donation will be accepted at the door. All are welcome.
