American Legion winter tour kicks off tomorrow

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. — On Jan. 14, a dinner will be held to kick off this year’s Annual Winter Tour at American Legion Post 3 in Sault St. Marie. A caravan made up of the American Legion Department of Michigan’s Commander Brett Holt and his wife Bonnie, Department of Michigan Auxiliary President Deanna Cartwright and her department secretary Denise Carter, and Department Detachment Commander Dominic Merlington and his wife Christine. Also in the caravan will be Upper Peninsula 12th District Commander Gary Lane, 5th Zone Detachment Commander Bill Germain and his wife Pat. The caravan will be led by Wagon Master Wayne Roy, Department of Michigan 5th Zone Commander.

Following the kick-off in Sault Ste. Marie Sunday, the caravan will travel to:

Jan. 15: Newberry Post 74, Gladstone Post 71, Menominee Post 146

Jan. 16: Powers Post 224, the Iron Mountain VA Hospital, and Crystal Falls Post 87

Jan. 17: White Pine Post 462 and Hancock Post 186

Jan. 18: L’Anse Post 144, Greenwood Post 114, and Little Lake Post 349

Jan. 19-20: Jacobetti Veterans Home in Marquette and Marquette Post 44

On Jan. 15, lunch will be held at Gladstone Post 71 at noon. Refreshments and fellowship will be had at Menominee Post 14 starting at 6 p.m. A dinner and comments from the department commander, auxiliary president, and SAL detachment commander will follow.

On Jan. 16, lunch will take place at Powers Post 244 at 11:30.

The activities in Marquette on Jan. 19 will begin with a tour of the Jacobetti Veterans Home at 10 a.m. Dinner and meetings will follow later in the day. For the activities continuing on Saturday, Jan. 20, Legion members are asked to refer to their conference program for the entire day and evening.
