Escanaba Area Figure Skating Club Exhibition

ESCANABA — Escanaba Area Figure Skating Club will hold their annual Christmas Exhibition on Sunday, Dec. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hannahville Ice and Turf Complex, formerly the Wells Sports Complex. There is no fee to get in, but guests are asked to bring in a canned food item for our local food banks. Come out and enjoy a good night of entertainment by our local skaters of all ages.

Kiwanis Club holds meeting Wednesday

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Rapid River Kiwanis Club holds weekly meetings every Wednesday at 7 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 1212 Minneapolis Ave., Gladstone. Plan to attend a meeting and here about on-going activities in support of community kids.

The Kiwanis Club welcomes new members who desire to support area children. If you are interested in helping to fill weekend food backpacks for the 180 school children who would have little or no food to eat on weekends without these backpacks, your assistance is welcome. Backpacks are filled each Wednesdayy, starting at 3 p.m. for four Gladstone Schools and the Rapid River School.

Kiwanis Clubs around the globe serve the needs of their community’s kids with all kinds of support including playground equipment, food, clothing and educational opportunities. ESCANABA — Learn dance steps while improving strength, balance, and muscle tone. Monday, Wednesday or Thursdays from 12:45 to 2 p.m. at the Escanaba Senior Center. Sign in at the office.

Free chronic pain ­management workshop

ESCANABA — A chronic pain management workshop is being offered at the MTEC center on Thursday Jan. 11. The chronic pain management workshop is a six week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed to help people living with chronic pain or loved ones caring for one with pain to learn the skills they need to manage their symptoms. Two trained leaders conduct the workshop. Subjects covered include: lack of energy, sleep problems, depression, fatigue, pain, staying active, medication and much more.

The six week class will meet on Thursday mornings at the MTEC center beginning on Jan. 11 and ending Feb. 15 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Class sizes are limited and pre-registration is required. Family and caregivers are welcome to sign up. There is no cost to attend. Please call the YMCA to register at 789-0005. Program administered by UPCAP, with support from the Northern Lights YMCA.

Escanaba Eagles ­breakfast set for Sunday

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles #1088 will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17 at the Eagles Hall 608 Ludington Street, Escanaba.

Menu items will include scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, toast, hash browns, pancakes, French toast, coffee, milk, orange juice and more.

There is a fee to attend the breakfast. Public is welcome.

Cantata Choir performs on Sunday in Rock

ROCK — The Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir will perform “Peace has Come” by Mary McDonald, on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock, and at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins.

Fellowship and refreshments will follow each performance. A free-will offering will be gratefully accepted to help cover the cost of the music.
