NARFE holds meeting
MARQUETTE — Bob Jenson of the Chocolay Raptor Center in Harvey will present a program at the Sept. 27 meeting of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) Chapter 1900.
The group will meet at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, at the Marquette Commons, 112 S. Third St., in Marquette. This is a different location from the usual NARFE meeting site, to accommodate the live birds in the raptor presentation.
NARFE members will find some free, two-hour parking in the Marquette Commons lot, first-come, first-served, and there is free, two-hour parking in the Spring Street lot between Baraga and Spring Streets. The city also offers metered parking at 50 cents per hour in other lots. Members should not park in the private, Pathways parking lot between the Commons lot and Spring Street.
The Chocolay Raptor Center started in 2012. Its mission is to rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned birds of prey, and to educate the public about raptors and other birds. Jenson’s program will feature live birds from the center.

U.P. Tri-County MEA-
Retired meet Sept. 28
ESCANABA — U. P. Tri-County MEA-Retired will have its first meeting of 2017-18 on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m. EDT (9 a.m. CDT) at the Great Lakes First Federal Credit Union, 2110 Third Avenue North, Escanaba. Park in the back of the parking lot so the customers can have the front parking spaces.
Kay Walker-Telma, MEA-Retired Vice President for the state organization, will be the guest speaker. Any interested retired or current MEA members can attend.

Taco Tuesday at Legion

GLADSTONE –American Legion Post 71 welcomes the public to Taco Tuesday serving from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. each week at the Gladstone Legion Hall, 802 Delta Ave. Both hard and soft tacos are available, along with nachos and nachos supreme.

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River American Legion meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Oct. 3.
Mill retirees plan
meeting Oct. 4
ESCANABA — The Mill Retirees group will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Union Hall on Sheridan Road at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a 50/50 drawing.
All mill retirees are invited to attend. The group meets the first Wednesday of every month.
League of Women
looking for donations
ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. They are also in need of large print books and western fiction, which are often requested.
Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.
Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.
They can be delivered to Pat Rudden at Northern Michigan Bank & Trust, 1921 3rd Ave N , or you can call her at 280-1789 for pick up.
